Connecting Tableau Server with Starburst using Oauth authentication

HI Team,

Using the documentation (Starburst | Tableau overview) shared by Starburst we have successfully implemented the oAuth authentication between Tableau Desktop and Trino server. Using this procedure when we enter the trino server details in starburst connector, select OAuth as authentication and the configured Oauth xml file as documented ( Starburst | Oauth config template for Entra-ID ) a browser window pops up which ask to enter our organisational domain credentials and password, once the login completed we are successfully authenticated and are able to see the catalogs and tables (f Trino server) in the Tableau Desktop.

Now when the same steps are followed for the Tableau server after placing the oauth xml, trino jdbc driver and starburst connector (and finally a server restart) on the server and following the steps as documented here ( Starburst | Tableau Server ) when we try to create a connection in Tableau server workbook and enter the details of trino server and wait for the browser window pop to appear (for entering our domain credentials), the windows pops up and just get closed (not giving us any opportunity to enter the credentials) and that it, nothing happens after that and we are on same page where we entered the trino server connection details.

Please let us know in case we are missing anything here, your support will be very valuable.
Thanks !

Please reach out to Customer Support on that. We would need to generate a custom made “.taco” file for your environment to make Tableau Server authentication work via OAuth2.

can you share sample .taco file and we will also try to make the required changes to make it work, if that is feasible ?

“.taco” file is digitally signed by Starburst to be accepted by Tableau Server. So you can’t make changes in it. You have to get it generated by Starburst and Customer Support will be able to assist with that.

understood…
If i go with Starburst Enterprise Support - Developer offering will it incur any cost and if yes what will it look like ?

Plans and Pricing | Starburst is the public place to go for pricing. For Starburst Enterprise, click on that tab and it will likely point you to a ‘Contact us’ page. If you have any trouble at all getting someone to talk about pricing with you, send me a DM here and let me know what email address I can share with our Account Executive team.
