Starburst queries against a Glue table fail when nested STRUCT field names contain special characters such as hyphens, colons, spaces, or other non-standard identifier characters. The root cause appears to be the Hive type parsing behavior (TypeInfoParser), which struggles to reliably parse nested STRUCT field names with such symbols from Glue/Hive metadata.

The impact is that nested fields become unqueryable in Starburst, leading to failures in downstream reporting and data consumption for the affected payloads. Is there a workaround in Starburst?

I was able to catch up with a senior member of our engineering staff who works in the connector team. He is not aware of any workaround and feels that migrating to Iceberg would be the best solution.
