Trino. The fast, open query engine

Distributed SQL for data anywhere. No copying data, no proprietary formats, just fast, federated queries across any source.

What is Trino?

Trino is a distributed SQL query engine designed to query large data sets across multiple heterogeneous data sources. Originally created at Facebook as Presto, it was open-sourced and forked as Trino by its original creators, who now lead Starburst.

Today, Trino powers analytics at some of the world's largest data companies. It connects directly to data where it lives, such as data lakes, data warehouses, operational databases, and SaaS APIs, without requiring a copy.

Starburst contributes the majority of Trino's core development and maintains the most complete enterprise distribution of the engine.

Why teams choose Trino

Federated queries

Join data across Snowflake, Amazon S3, Postgres, Kafka, and 50+ other sources in a single SQL statement. No ETL. No copying data.

Massively parallel

Trino's distributed architecture scales horizontally. Push predicate pushdown to each source and only pull what you need.

Open & extensible

Apache-licensed, vendor-neutral, and built for extension. Write your own connectors, functions, or security plugins.
