Starburst Enterprise 433-e STS

Published: January 12, 2024

Starburst Enterprise platform (SEP) 433-e STS has been released as a follow-up to the 429-e LTS release.

This latest version of SEP is based on Trino 433 and includes new enterprise features and enhancements in addition to everything added to the following Trino releases:

Here are some of the feature highlights that we’ve included in this enterprise release:

  • SCIM user and group synchronization, originally released in SEP 420-e as a public preview, is now released for general availability. This feature allows SEP to synchronize users and groups with a SCIM provider such as Azure Active Directory or Okta so you can provision access to data with a stable list of users and groups across your systems.
  • SEP now supports SAML 2.0 authentication as a public preview, enabling single sign-on (SSO) for SEP clusters. Currently the list of supported identity providers include Azure Active Directory, Okta, PingFederate, and KeyCloak.
  • The BigQuery connector now supports managed statistics, allowing SEP to collect and store table statistics for improved cost-based optimizations.
  • SEP 433-e now supports Java 21. SEP will continue to support both Java 17 and Java 21 with plans for a future release to require Java 21 as a minimum. To learn more, read our recent Java support updates blog post.

In addition to these enterprise enhancements, all features added in recent Trino releases are included as well. Here are some highlights from these releases:

  • Support for SQL routines and CREATE/DROP FUNCTION
  • Support for REPLACE modifier in CREATE TABLE
  • Improved latency for prepared statements in JDBC driver
  • Faster filtering on columns containing long strings in Parquet data.
  • Predicate pushdown for real and double columns in MongoDB.
  • Support for Iceberg REST catalog in the register_table and unregister_table procedures.
  • Support for BEARER authentication for Nessie catalog.
