Today, I am pleased to announce the availability of Presto 195e including Presto’s first Cost Based Optimizer! With the new optimizer you should expect to see significant improvements in Presto’s query performance. Our team, in collaboration with Facebook, spent the last year heads down working on it, so you can understand why we are pretty excited that this day has finally come! Notable features and additions include:
- State of the art cost based optimizer
- Distributed sort for better query performance and to allow for sorting on larger data
- Secured internal cluster communication over HTTPS using Kerberos or LDAP authentication
- Support for ROLE management
- Various bugs fixes

195e is based on the prestodb/presto version 0.195 but includes many additional features and patches that will be integrated in the master branch soon. 195e is rigorously tested by Starburst and is certified to work with many of your favorite tools such as Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI.
